Music Circle is a fun time for listening to, moving to, and making music together. Using a variety of musical recordings that use real musical instruments and focus on traditional folk songs, the children learn to repeat beats, vocalize tones, and play and/or dance along with different types of music. Children are introduced to musical terms and concepts, including pitch, duration, tempo, and volume. “Music Jams”, with real percussion instruments, are a favorite time in music circle, as are lively dance circles, which encourage children to move their bodies to music from all over the world. Children additionally learn about different musical instrument families and their integration in the orchestra. The music table and individual music activities in the classroom allow children to explore music independently, with instruments to play and recordings of classical pieces to listen to.
