Ideas for Summer

As Boulder Knoll is not open  in the months of June- August, many families ask for ideas about programs to explore for their child during these summer months. Below is a partial list of programs that Boulder Knoll alums have attended, and reported positive experiences. This is by no means a complete list, and the list itself is a work in progress. If we have forgotten something, or you have a recommendation for our list, let us know! And don’t forget to check out your local Parks and Recs  and Public Library for local, affordable programs. Having opportunities to attend a different program in the summer will help build your child’s resilience, knowledge of the world and breadth of experience.

One note: The best summer programs fill quickly. Apply early.

Audubon Arts Center at Neighborhood Music School, New Haven. Summer Kinderarts program for 3 1/2-5 1/2 year olds, including “music, dance and art”.

Bushy Hill Summer Programs, Ivoryton, CT- For children ages 4 and above, this outdoor environmental education based camp is a bit of a drive, but excellent.

 The Carrot Patch, Hamden, CT

Common Ground Environment Education Center, New Haven (I know it looks like a drive to get there, but SO worth it!)

Camp Eagle Feather, Rocky Hill, CT. Day camp for children, ages 6-15, run by and at the School of Swimming in Rocky Hill.

Eli Whitney Museum and Workshop, New Haven (Children must be 6 to attend, but worth keeping on your radar for the future!)

Environmental Learning Centers of Connecticut, Bristol, CT. Summer camps for children entering K to grade 12.

Franciscan Life Center Summer Programs, Meriden. For children ages 6-8, these are described as “land-based” summer programs for children. So so lovely.

Hartford Stage– Half day program for 3-5 year olds (Day Dreamers) focused on “creative movement, music, story theatre, and puppet play”. For 5-8 year olds (Children’s Cast and Bookends), focus includes” story theatre, creative movement, music, puppetry, and arts and crafts”.

JCC of Greater New Haven, Woodbridge

Everson Soccer Academy Hamden, Woodbridge, Wallingford, and many other locations. Soccer camps for kids as young as 2-5 (Tiger Kixx) and 5 and up. Excellent organization and all inclusive ethic. Brazilian soccer!

New Era Gymnastics , Hamden. For kids ages 5+. This is the home of the famous Ninja Warrior camp as well as lots of other options for kids.

Tinkergarten, Southington, CT : Fun outdoor activities for children ages 1-8.
